FutureFURstudio- initial project
Through a new co-operation Central Ostrobothnia University/Department of Fur Design and Juthbacka Cultural Centre will combine their knowlegde and build up a FutureFURstudio in Ostrobothnia, Finland
Central Ostrobothnia University of Applied Sciences/ Pietarsaari Unit and Juthbacka Culture Centre have in November 2010 started a co-operation in order to create a professional Fur Design Studio in Ostrobothnia, the area where most of the Finnish fur farms are located. During a five-month period the activity is planned and new concepts are created as a basis for a three-year long FutureFURstudio-project.
Central Ostrobothnia University of Applied Sciences/Department of Fur Design has during 14 years built up a unique Fur Design and Marketing education on university level and Juthbacka Culture Centre has created successful and profitable development concepts for creative trades. This joint project is expected to be the beginning of a close and long lasting co-operation which will benefit both parts.
The FutureFURstudio will be a show window to the world for fur farmers in Ostrobothnia
The aim of the project is to start an internationally recognized Fur Design Studio in Ostrobothnia. The FutureFURstudio serves the whole fur trade, especially the local fur farmers by bringing them and the designers closer to each other. The aim is also to encourage the use of fur in design products for example in furniture and also in totally new areas. In the project models of activities corresponding to the needs of the design companies will be developed, an open and innovative environment will be created and the design knowledge will be developed on international basis. The FutureFURstudio will also create new networks between designers and manufactures.
The project will form the basis for a long term activity
DISCOVERING FUR - a two-week long education consisting of the Basics of Fur, visits to different companies and a creative part.
Product development services
Companies/designers will be able to come and test their ideas in their collections through the guidance of professional furriers. The project will also offer companies/designers tailored education and different kinds of services for example product development.
Creative workshops where designers and professionals from different countries come together to work in creative workshops with a given theme and design an innovative collection made from furs produced in Ostrobothnia.
International marketing. The collections designed in the workshops will be shown to international visitors at fashion fairs, exhibitions and other events. Showroom at the Studio.
The project is financed by the Regional Council of Ostrobothnia and municipalities in the region of Jakobstad.
